On December 16th, the inauguration of the Hellenic Naval Academy’s Navigation Simulator took place, following a grant by the Athina I. Martinou Foundation, along with the complete renovation of the hosting facilities.
It is an integrated, state-of-the-art full mission bridge simulation system, with a broad mission scope for navigation and ship-handling training. The simulation system will form a core pillar of the Academy’s naval training infrastructure, supporting the education of cadets who constitute the future officer corps of the Hellenic Navy.
Through advanced simulation technology and flexible training configurations, the system significantly enhances practical training by enabling cadets to develop, alongside their solid theoretical foundation, the operational skills required for the safe, efficient, and effective conduct of navigation and ship-handling operations. This high level of practical navigation training ensures that graduates are fully prepared to assume operational duties onboard Hellenic Navy vessels immediately upon completion of their studies.
Beyond the standard two-year manufacturer’s warranty, the simulation system will be supported for an additional five years, covering technical support services, repairs, and spare parts. Furthermore, upon completion of the seven-year operational period, the system’s entire computing infrastructure will be replaced with new, state-of-the-art hardware at no cost to the Hellenic Navy, thereby ensuring reliable and uninterrupted operation of the system well beyond a ten-year service horizon.
