Its main activity is to organize the Greek Documentary Festival – docfest, which has been held in the city of Chalkida for 18 consecutive years. At the same time, “Porthmos” is also active in the area of education, running cinema direction and animation workshops for children and youth, as well as masterclasses featuring acclaimed personalities from the arts. The organization maintains nationwide partnerships with Private and Public secondary education institutions, as well as the country’s largest universities (University of Athens, University of Thessaloniki, University of the Aegean, Athens School of Fine Arts, Ionian University, etc).

“Porthmos” Cultural Actions Company was founded in 2007 and develops actions in the areas of culture and education through actions implemented mainly in the Region of Central Greece.
Support for the Program “Skyros Island Project”
The grant pertains to support for the initiative “Skyros Island Project”, a modular action aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of the island of Skyros, its environmental dimension, and its gendered social momentum, through a combination of art and technology interventions. The local community will be closely involves in individual sub-actions.
The inclusive and multidisciplinary project will be carried out in Skyros, a small island centre of the Region of Central Greece. The project will focus on the gendered impact of the interconnected development of culture and environment, as well as on the contemporary coexistence of heritage and technology, which transforms social structures from the ground up, regardless of latitude and longitude or community size. It aims to create a multidimensional record of the local society of the present, as well as the remnants of the past, in a creative and innovative way. Its aspiration is to produce a resource that will allow the island to lead the way for other, similar communities, resulting in a creative juxtaposition of similarities and contrasts. The estimated number of total beneficiaries over the course of the grant is 2,500 people.
The project is implemented through a grant by the Athina I. Martinou Foundation, as part of the “Points of Support” program, in the area: “Social Innovation in Small Local Seaside Communities”.
