The environmental organization Dive In Action was founded in 2019 in Santorini and combines activity, acquaintance with the underwater habitat, observation, and pleasure, while engaging in action, awareness-raising and education on marine environmental issues.

It provides opportunities for all interested parties, amateurs and certified divers, to explore the precious seabeds, observe and protect, while developing environmental consciousness and action. By their participation, the friends of the sea support the work of Dive In Action in marine environmental conservation, the protection and observation of sea life and, above all, in keeping the seabeds clean.

Support for the Program “Erinia, a project in the forest of Spirographs!”

The grant pertains to support for the action “Erinia, a project in the forest of Spirographs!” The “forest” of spirographs, teeming with ascidians, in Erinia of Nea Kameni (Santorini) survives next to a large, dangerous underwater waste deposit, in an expanse of 8,400 sqm. Its documented existence and usefulness, along with its beauty, may elevate the area as a model seabed, just by removing the waste and decontaminating it.

The project’s main target group are students of all educational levels in the local community, who are challenged to examine simple human habits with respect to the vulnerable and fragile environment. By publicizing its results, the action also deliberately involves the professionals, deeming them responsible for taking measures to protect the area where they develop their business activities. An estimated 1,000 people will benefit over the course of the grant.

The action is implemented with a grant from the Athina I. Martinou Foundation, as part of the “Points of Support” Program, in the category “Social Innovation in Small Seaside Local Societies”.
