The initiative was launched as a result of a tragic incident that occurred in the summer of 2014 in Mykonos island, when a 10-year-old boy his life while doing water sports with his friends. The Organization’s actions are aimed at increasing safety in the water, in collaboration with the private and public sectors, as well as raising awareness in society on matters related to their safety in the water, the sea, and water-related sports and recreational activities.
SafeWaterSports has created Ocean Lab, a specially designed digital, educational and entertainment space, which schools may visit for free. Through an innovative educational program for primary and secondary school students, which has been endorsed by the Ministry of Education in Greece and Cyprus, the children learn about their safety in the water through technology-driven interactive games. The program includes a wealth of state-of-the-art educational materials (video, animation, quizzes, training suitcase).
