HIGGS

HIGGS was founded in 2015 with the goal of strengthening Civil Society Organizations through capacity building, primarily via training, mentoring, consulting, networking, and events.

HIGGS’s mission is to provide holistic support to a growing civil society ecosystem in Greece, benefiting those in need without limiting its scope to any specific area. It offers capacity-building seminars and consulting support across the entire spectrum of civil society organizations and serves as a key hub for the ecosystem. By the end of 2024, HIGGS had supported 246 civil society organizations through its core programs, not including ad hoc support provided to many other organizations outside of its main initiatives.

Support for organizing a Philanthropy Conference on the topic: "Financial Sustainability and Development of Civil Society"

HIGGS organized the Philanthropy Conference for the fourth consecutive year, which took place on May 28 and 29, 2025, at the amphitheater in Technopolis, Municipality of Athens, with major sponsorship from the Athina I. Martinou Foundation.

This year’s theme, “Financial Sustainability and Development of Civil Society,” was chosen based on demand from the ecosystem itself, through a vote by participants at last year’s conference. The main thematic sessions of this year’s conference included: a) Financial sustainability of civil society organizations, b) Corporate Social Responsibility and strategic partnerships with civil society organizations, c) The role of charitable foundations in funding civil society organizations, d) Alternative sources of sustainability support for civil society organizations, and e) Private funding and best practices.

Additionally, distinguished keynote speakers from abroad shared valuable insights and emerging trends on sustainability and the development of the civil society ecosystem. The conference lasted two days, attracting over 300 participants daily, featuring 35 speakers and 7 panel discussions, creating opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and sharing of best practices.
