Alekos Fassianos Non-Profit Company
Support for the summer operation of Alekos Fassianos’ Atelier-Residence
The grant supports the summer operation of Alekos Fassianos’ Atelier-Residence on the island of Kea. From June 5 to September 14, 2025, the public will have the opportunity to visit the space where Fassianos lived and created, experiencing firsthand his personal universe—a place imbued with light, art, and the scent of the Aegean. The goal is to highlight Fassianos’ connection to the sea, nature, art, and Kea through a series of activities for all ages, featuring cultural, educational, and social programming.
For Alekos Fassianos, Kea was a meeting point with nature, light, the sea, and simplicity. The sea was not just the backdrop of his life on Kea; it was a source of inspiration, a refuge, and a lived experience. Fassianos fished on his own, cooked the fish he caught, and through this almost ritualistic contact with nature, he drew energy and imagery for his work. He illustrated and authored a unique book, The Little Littles of Kea, a tribute to the island’s fish—from humble everyday species to the strange creatures of the depths—with the tenderness and immediacy that characterized his vision. The marine world accompanied him not only in his summer activities but also in his art, symbolizing freedom, playfulness, and harmony.
The atelier, built in typical Cycladic architecture with views of the endless blue sea, was his summer refuge for decades. The sense of balance, clarity, and simplicity that defined his work still resonates in the space today.
