Support for the “Staying in Lemnos! Seeing Each Day Differently on the Island” Program

It consists of supporting and strengthening the non-profit activities that directly aim to improve quality of life on the island, enhance social cohesion, and foster civic participation, responding effectively and innovatively to contemporary social challenges. Specifically, it seeks to promote educational, cultural, and social innovation, strengthen civil society at local, national, and international levels, and highlight the unique identity of local communities as expressed through the built, natural, and human environment.

The grant supports the initiative “Staying in Lemnos! Seeing Each Day Differently on the Island.” The project primarily targets approximately 30 adolescents aged 13–16 who attend secondary education units in Lemnos (Myrina, Mudros, Livadochori), following an open call for participation through their schools. Divided by school into groups of 5–6 participants, the adolescents will assign roles during the introductory session (e.g., photojournalists, writers, digital publication coordinators), which they will maintain throughout the workshops. Interviews and photography will take place outside the school environment, under the guidance of the workshop facilitators.

The initiative also engages 10 teachers (Language, IT, CPE, Flexible Zone, etc.) selected by the schools to participate in the activities and support the students in their work. In addition, institutional representatives, who serve as the main interlocutors for the adolescents during the presentation of their results and proposals, are involved. Finally, through open dissemination events, the wider public will have the opportunity to become familiar with and reflect on the core concepts and sustainability of the project. The estimated number of beneficiaries over the course of the grant is approximately 40 individuals.

The initiative is implemented through a grant from the Athina I. Martinou Foundation as part of the “Points of Support” Program, under the thematic focus: “Strengthening Island and Other Coastal Local Communities.”
