Additionally, the Association undertakes actions to protect the island’s natural environment and provides support to all residents of Pserimos at every level. It encourages active participation in community life through proposals, interventions, initiatives, and projects aimed at improving the environment and the quality of life of Pserimos’ residents, with full respect for their rights as individuals and citizens. The Association fosters solidarity, education, social connections, recreation, and any activities that strengthen the social fabric of the community through group events.
Pserimos Citizens’ Association
The Pserimos Citizens’ Association was established in 2022. Its mission is to promote the quality of life and cultural development of the residents of Pserimos Island.
Support for the “Paths of Pserimos” Program
The grant supports the “Paths of Pserimos” initiative. Pserimos is a small island whose community is seeking ways to enhance the quality of life for both residents and visitors. The island’s residents envision a higher-quality form of tourism that respects the island’s rhythm and highlights the uniqueness of their place—from its landscape and biodiversity to its history and traditions. The aim of the “Paths of Pserimos” project is to map the island’s historic trail network, paving the way for gentle, experiential tourism that strengthens the local economy by bringing visitors closer to the authentic spirit of Pserimos.
The initiative is implemented in partnership with the Institute for Marine Research and Education “Oceanides,” based in Kalymnos. Specifically, Oceanides will undertake the tracing and mapping of Pserimos’ traditional trail network using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as well as document biodiversity and cultural heritage elements associated with the routes. In parallel, they will oversee photography of the natural landscape and create accompanying informational materials, which will be used both to showcase the trails and to inform residents and visitors. The estimated number of beneficiaries over the course of the grant is approximately 3,000 individuals.
The initiative is implemented through a grant from the Athina I. Martinou Foundation as part of the “Points of Support ” Program, under the thematic focus: “Strengthening Island and Other Coastal Local Communities.”
