The Hellenic Naval Academy has always been the cradle of systematic academic education and naval training of prospective Hellenic Navy Officers.
Since its establishment in 1845, the HNA focuses on providing academic education, mental competence and physical training to the Hellenic Navy’s future Officers.
The Hellenic Naval Academy is a Supreme Military Educational Institution (SMEI) and offers University level academic education and naval training. Entrance to the Academy is accomplished after successfully passing the annual PanHellenic University Entrance Exams held by the Ministry of Education, and subsequently meeting the requirements of psychometric and athletic performance tests. The graduates of the Naval Academy pursue the career of a Naval Officer in the Hellenic Navy.
The grant pertains to the provision of a Navigation Simulator, along with the complete renovation of the hosting facilities.
It is an integrated, state-of-the-art full mission bridge simulation system, with a broad mission scope for navigation and ship-handling training. The simulation system will form a core pillar of the Academy’s naval training infrastructure, supporting the education of cadets who constitute the future officer corps of the Hellenic Navy.
Through advanced simulation technology and flexible training configurations, the system significantly enhances practical training by enabling cadets to develop, alongside their solid theoretical foundation, the operational skills required for the safe, efficient, and effective conduct of navigation and ship-handling operations. This high level of practical navigation training ensures that graduates are fully prepared to assume operational duties onboard Hellenic Navy vessels immediately upon completion of their studies.
Beyond the standard two-year manufacturer’s warranty, the simulation system will be supported for an additional five years, covering technical support services, repairs, and spare parts. Furthermore, upon completion of the seven-year operational period, the system’s entire computing infrastructure will be replaced with new, state-of-the-art hardware at no cost to the Hellenic Navy, thereby ensuring reliable and uninterrupted operation of the system well beyond a ten-year service horizon. The estimated number of beneficiaries over the course of the grant is approximately 400 individuals.
