AERTON – ELYTIS ARCHIVE – Civil Non-Profit Company was created in 2013 with the aim of protecting and promoting the work and archive of Odysseas Elytis, in accordance with the moral and aesthetic principles expressed in the poet’s work.
In pursuit of its aims, in May 2023, AERTON signed a memorandum of collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Sports to create a contemporary museum dedicated to Odysseas Elytis. The Ministry provided a two-storey building in Plaka to house the Museum. The Museum will promote the poet’s work through various educational programs and cultural events, as well as through the support of new studies and interpretive approaches; it will also incorporate Elytis’ home, which will be transferred to the venue as is.
The grant pertains to the provision of technological equipment (projectors, sound systems, computer) for the interdisciplinary room. The equipment will allow for the implementation of educational programmes for children with the use of contemporary media and the option of remote (online) attendance from schools all over Greece. The number of direct beneficiaries is estimated at: 3.000 adult visitors and 2.000 children, who are expected to join the educational programs annually.
